Emergency Management: The Pike County EMA seeks to be prepared for emergency situations that may arise. Response to emergencies is of utmost importance to prevent further losses. Mitigation is the "Cornerstone" of Emergency Management. It is defined as "sustained action that reduces or eliminates long-term risk to people and property from natural hazards and their effects." Mitigation is an ongoing process and helps to lessen the effect of future disasters by enforcing building codes and keeping homes away from flood plains.
The Pike County Emergency Management Agency is located at 110 South Three Notch Street in Troy, Alabama. Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Please feel free to contact our office if you have questions concerning Emergency Management in Pike County. With the creation of the Federal Emergency Agency in 1978 came the birth of an all-hazards approach to emergency management, replacing the nuclear attack image of civil defense. The Pike County EMA is funded by federal, state and local monies. There are many hazards that can create damages, cause casualities or potential injuries in our community. Disaster situations can arise from every day occurances such as hazardous material accidents, transportion accidents, civil disorder or fire. Emergency plans are available in the EMA office for specific hazards.
